1985-1986
1985-86 Season marked an
unprecedented third consecutive Centennial League championship for the
Tigers and their coaches, Mr. Pladus, Mr. Evans, and Mr. Derr.
The championship didn't come easy, however, as the injury plagued
Tigers clawed their way to a 14-2-1 season that saw them finish as the
fifth ranked AA wrestling team in Pennsylvania.
For the third straight season, the Tiger finished unbeaten in the
Centennial League but did have to settle for a draw in their dual meet
with Palmerton. Individual
highlights included Butch Padamonsky's capping off an outstanding career
with a third place finish in the state Championships and sophomore Scott
Derr turning in an impressive fourth place finish.
Both wrestlers also won Centennial League and District XI
Championships as well. Seniors
Chris Hunsicker and Jason Schmoyer and underclassmen Ed Kelchner and
Chris Shalbert all posted very fine records for the gusty squad of
grapplers who rallied time and time again to continue the championship
tradition of Northwestern wrestling.
