1977-1978
1977-78 the season was to be
a rebuilding year for Northwestern wrestling.
However, the team worked hard and the team improved as the season
progressed. It paid off
because the team won its second consecutive District XI Team title and
placed sixth in the Pennsylvania State Tournament.
Scott Fenstermaker and Lucas Wentz placed third in the District
XI Tournament, while Mark Blose and Greg Stewart placed second. Greg also placed second in Regional’s, which qualified him
for the State tournament. Vince
Stravino (24-4-2) was a District XI champ, a Regional champ, and a
Pennsylvania State runner-up, as a freshman!
Vince also competed in an international match against Austria,
which he pinned his opponent. Rich
Mohr (28-2) was a district XI champ, a Regional champ, and finished
third in the State Tournament. Not
bad for a rebuilding year!
