1976-1977
1976-77 Northwestern Wrestling
dominated the wrestling
season by winning the Christmas Tournament, the Centennial League
(14-0), the Centennial League Tournament, the District XI Tournament and
by having a third place team finish in the Pennsylvania State
Tournament. Robert Hicks
beat the eventual District XI and Regional champs and the team claimed
three District XI champs: Chris Wentz (29-1), Bryan Billig (27-1), and
Dan Blose (30-0). Dwight Billig (25-10 TOOK SECOND PLACE IN THE District XI
Tournament and Lucas Wentz and Rick Mohr had third place finishes
respectively. The team
boasted four regional champs, Chris Wentz, Bryan Billig, Dwight Billig,
and Dan Blose. Chris Wentz was third
in states and Dan Blose
became the first STATE CHAMP in Northwestern Lehigh history. Also Chris Wentz set a state record for pins in his
career (76) and wrestled less than 100 times in high school. He was also selected for the All-American Team.
The 1976-77 team was a GREAT one.
