| Under
the coaching of Mike Williams and Bryan Klass, Northwestern
Lehigh made school history yet again. For the first time
in school history NWL placed fourth in the PIAA STATE TEAM DUAL
tournament! The Tigers went on to place fourth in Hershey
at the PIAA individual state tournament where Northwestern was
represented by six wrestlers. The Tigers sent two
wrestlers into the PIAA State Finals. Junior Scott Clymer
became Northwestern sixth state champion and the first state
champions since 1980. Senior Dan Konno knocked off
defending state champion Donnie Ament in the Semi-Finals in one
of the tournaments most exciting matches. Dan went
on to place second. Freshman Evan Yenolevich (103lbs),
Junior Ben Marich (140lbs), Junior Brandon Williams (152lbs),
and Sophomore Ben Clymer (171lbs) all placed in the top twelve
at states.
Northwestern placed a
school record ten wrestlers at the PIAA District tournament
falling just short to Northern Lehigh by only 3.5 points.
The Tigers captured two gold medals at Districts. Evan
Yenolevich (103lbs) and Dan Konno (145lbs) both were crowned the
2006 District XI champions. Northwestern qualified
eight wrestlers to the PIAA Regional Tournament where ALL
eight wrestlers placed! Again, the Tigers captured two
gold medals. Evan and Dan both were crowned PIAA Regional
Champions. The Tigers qualified six wrestlers to the 2006
PIAA State Tournament.
The Tigers were
Colonial League runners-up for the second consecutive
year. NWL finished first out of over 35 teams both AA and
AAA at the Penn Manor Tournament. At this tournament the
Tigers set a new team record set in 2005 by the 2005 AAA State
Champions. NWL started off the season by placing second at
the Nazareth Invitational falling short to Nazareth.
Nazareth went on the win the 2006 PIAA State Tournament.
For the third consecutive
year the Junior Varsity team finish first in the JV District XI
Tournament. The Tigers were the highest placing AA team in
District XI finishing third overall only behind Easton,
Nazareth, and Northampton.
The Tigers also had two
wrestlers reach the 100 win milestone. (Sr. Dan
Konno and Jr. Scott
Clymer)
The Tigers assistant
coach Bryan Klass received the 2006 State Assistant Coach
of the Year Award along with the 2006 District XI Assistant
Coach of the Year Award.
