Northwestern Lehigh has gained statewide recognition for its excellence in wrestling.  Looking at the high school's wrestling history may reveal how this great wrestling tradition began and how it has been maintained throughout the years.  The roots of Northwestern began in 1964.  It was head coach Paul Civitts and his assistant Ralph organ who were instrumental in the planning, preparing, and workings needed to get the program off the ground.  Hardships, such as practices held in the boiler room and improvised wrestling mats were overcome by sheer determination and desire put forth by the wrestlers.  Although the 1964-1965 wrestling season was in its inaugural year, the team managed to break into the win column and finished 1-11.
